The Benefits of Turmeric for Health and Beauty

Turmeric is known to be a spice which is made of the roots of the curcuma longa plant that belongs to ginger family. It is usually used in Indian traditional food. The rhizomes of the plant are boiled, dried and ground, the turmeric powder being formed it this way. It has a beautiful bright orange-yellow color, with slightly bitter and peppery taste and a mustardy smell because of a substance called curcumin.

Turmeric is considered as a herbal remedy with anti-inflammatory and therapeutic properties. That is why it is used in treating Alzheimer’s disease, different kinds of allergies, arthritis, diabetes and other chronic conditions.

Turmeric is applied in case of burns, too, having an antiseptic property. Just combine it with aloe vera gel and you will feel how your wound heals very fast.

Besides its health benefits, turmeric is a beauty product. It is a cheap home remedy for skin problems, or you can use it just for having a perfect skin.

Due to its antiseptic and antibacterial properties, turmeric is effective in the treatment of acne. Turmeric face mask helps to clear the scars and the inflammation caused by acne. It is also a miracle for the oily skin, regulating the production of sebum and oily substance. Often, in the remedies for oily skin problems, together with turmeric, is used the sandalwood powder, which acts as an astringent.

Turmeric is used in preparation of masks for dry skin as well:

-For example, you can combine a pinch of this spice, with 1 egg, several drops of olive oil, freshly squeezed lemon juice and rose water. Apply it on dry areas of your body such as face, elbows, knees and neck. Let it completely dry and after this wash if off with warm water.

-There are several recipes of masks which help in reduction of wrinkles. One of them is: mix turmeric powder with rice powder, raw milk and tomato juice, apply it on face and neck for 30 minutes, then wash off with warm water. This mask will also make your skin look brighter.

-A mask of turmeric powder and juice of lemon or cucumber can be used for removing skin tanning or pigmentation. This combination of ingredients must be left to act on the concerned place for 20-30 minutes and after this wash it off. Repeat the procedure until you obtain the desired result.

-Women who want to remain healthy and young for a longer period of time can try the night mask, made of turmeric and milk (or yoghurt). Apply the mask on your face and leave it overnight. In the morning take it off with a cleanser. For a better result add a little bit of turmeric to your moisturizer. Repeat the procedure twice a week.

Turmeric can be used as a healing agent for cracked heels. For this, prepare a mix of 2 spoons of turmeric and several drops of coconut oil. Instead of coconut oil you can take castor oil. Apply the mixture on your heels for 10-15 minutes, and then have a bath. You will get amazed by your delicate heels.

Turmeric can be helpful for your hair as well. In combination with other ingredients, it can help get rid of various scalp conditions such as dermatitis and eczema, which make you have an itchy skin, inflammation and thin hair, as well as stimulate the hair growth.

Indians use turmeric also as a remedy for dandruff. Apply a mix of turmeric and olive oil on your head, leave it for 15 minutes and after this take a shower, using a natural shampoo. You will remain amazed by the result!

Turmeric reduces the negative effects caused by unhealthy diet, a disease, or stress which provoke the hair loss. Curcumin inhibits the cause of the death of the follicles which results into hair loss.
