If you have found yourself in this situation, I will present you a trick how you can get rid of gel manicure at home, so you could save some time and money.

For our easy gel manicure removal you will need acetone, cotton wool, tin foil and patience! You have to be prepared that this process will not last 5-10 minutes, so ensure yourself that you have nothing to do or nowhere to go. Also, it is important to remove the gel in a well-ventilated space, because you are going to work with acetone.

Using a nail file, remove gently the top layer of the gel. This represents usually the shine, so be careful not to file too far into the color, not to damage the nail itself. For a better protection from acetone, which has the property to dry a lot the skin, you can apply some cuticle oil, thick cream or Vaseline over the skin surrounding your nails and on the fingertips.

Then you have to rip some cotton wool into nail-size pieces. When you have 10 pieces of cotton, soak them one by one in acetone and apply on your nails. Some manicurists advice to use acetone without moisturizing ingredients, as they slow down the soaking process. Also, begin with your non-dominant hand. After covering the nail with the cotton, wrap the fingertip in tin foil and stay in this way for 10-15 minutes. When the time passed, take off the cotton wool and the tin foil. The gel soaks all the acetone and becomes soft and easy to remove. If however the gel hardly comes off, repeat the procedure once again. Also, you can try to pressure on the nail while removing the cotton, thus the gel comes off together with the cotton wool.

If your manicure gel does not come off in any case described upper, than you could try the following method. Take two bowls, one larger than another. Fill the larger bowl with hot water, place the smaller once inside and pour in it acetone. Bear in mind that acetone is highly-flammable, so do not heat it in microwave or stove. Keep your fingertips in acetone for 10-15 minutes and then rub gently the gel with a wooden stick until you completely remove it.

After removing the gel, it is recommended to leave the nails to rest a few days. Soak your nails into coconut oil for 5-7 minutes, apply cuticle oil on nail plates for rejuvenating and re-hydrating them. You can also apply vitamin D oil for faster recovery.
